It has been rumored that Newey’s departure is largely due to the internal struggles at Red Bull. Earlier this year, we reported on Red Bull team principal Christian Horner being under investigation due to inappropriate behavior with a Red Bull employee, which resulted in Jos Verstappen, Max Verstappen’s father, acknoledging a power struggle within the Red Bull organization. The instability and turmoil inside the Red Bull organization are linked to be the reason why Newey decided to leave.

Red Bull’s announcement reads as follows:

The Team announces that Chief Technical Officer Adrian Newey will leave the Red Bull Technology Group in the first quarter of 2025.

The engineering supremo will step back from Formula 1 design duties to focus on final development and delivery of Red Bull’s first hypercar, the hugely anticipated RB17.

He will remain involved in and committed to this exciting project until its completion.

We’d like to thank Adrian for our achievements in the time that we have worked together so far. He has been instrumental for us in achieving a remarkable seven Formula One Drivers’ and six Constructors’ Championship titles – totalling 118 victories and 101 poles including the STR 2008 pole and victory.

What Next?

Newey wouldn’t be lacking options should he choose to join a new team next year. Insiders say that both Ferrari and Aston Martin have a strong interest in his services; however, as seen in the statement, Newey’s hands are tied with Red Bull’s hypercar project until early 2025.

Legacy

No matter what Newey ends up doing, his legacy in Formula 1 is undeniable. He has helped Red Bull to seven driver’s championships, split between Max Verstappen and Sebastian Vettel, along with seven constructors championships and over 100 wins.
