Meet the Hyperion XP-1: The 221-MPH Hydrogen Hypercar

Allow me to introduce to you the Hyperion XP-1, one of the most revolutionary hypercars
made in the past recent years. Hyperion is a California-based company, and in recent
weeks, they’ve been making waves in the automotive news sector, with rumors of their
new hypercar coming out. And now, the waiting and rumors are over: Hyperion has given
us the official specs for their latest creation.

Right off the bat, the Hyperion isn’t your traditional hypercar. It’s powered by Hydrogen, which in the hypercar world, is a first. However, this car is pretty much a bunch of world firsts- all packaged in a car that looks like it landed from the moon.

For example, the Hyperion XP-1 will have 1,016 miles of range, which not only is unrivaled in the hypercar world, but also in pedestrian vehicles in general. You could go from Philadelphia to California and only have to take 3 fuel stops, which is radical. What’s even more radical is the fact that the Hyperion XP-1 has 1,000 horsepower, weighs only 2,275 lbs (1032kg), and will go from 0-60 in 2.2 seconds, thanks to the XP-1’s all-wheel-drive system. This all translates to a top speed that will exceed 221 mph (356 km/h).

Yet, the Hyperion XP-1 has more tricks up its sleeve. For example, the V-Wing doors can be electronically tinted for more privacy. It also has a Kevlar composite diffuser and aerodynamic side blades. These side blades are quite unique, as they do far more than just help provide downforce when cornering. Actually, the sideblades have solar panels on them, and when need be, the sideblades will adjust to follow the trajectory of the sun, to help get more energy into the car.

The Hyperion XP-1 will be put into production in 2022, and Hyperion says that the
production car will look exactly like the car you see on your screen now, no if-and-or buts.
And while pricing hasn’t been released yet, you can expect the price to be in the millions.
The 300 car production will also only drive the price up even more.

According to Hyperion, the goal behind this car is to prove that hydrogen is a legitimate contender in the powertrain contention. And to be honest, I think they’ve done just that
with the XP-1.
